“He/She shall not want as long as I breathe,…”

Our Story

Founded in 1910

Tau Delta Phi Fraternity was founded in 1910 by a group of New York City Jewish teenagers as a high school fraternity named Phi Sigma Beta. When these young men went on to college, they longed to carry on their fraternal ties and bond of brotherhood. These nine men created Tau Delta Phi because they wanted a society that would accept them at a time when almost every fraternity would have denied them membership.

Pioneers of Inclusion

In the 1940s, Tau Delta Phi became the first NIC fraternity to open its membership beyond Jewish men. The founders and their contemporaries called for the integration of all chapters and welcomed members of all races, creeds, and ethnic origins. They advocated integration 20 years before the height of the civil rights movement, because membership in other fraternities had not been open to them in college due to their religious beliefs. Our nine noble founders did not want anyone else to be excluded from fraternity life the way they had been.

Tau Delta Phi in the Philippines

The Tau Delta Phi International Collegiate Service Fraternity and Sorority was brought to the Philippines in 1966 and became inactive after a few years. On October 13, 1978, it was reactivated by Supreme Master Adrian Fontecha Tampus and Supreme Mistress Velma Abrahan Tarrant. Today, brothers and sisters serve in recognized chapters from Luzon and the Visayas to Mindanao.

He/She shall not want as long as I breathe, for he/she is my brother/sister.
